Welcome back to another new year here at Veritas Lux Mea.
We figured almost a month off was sufficient "creative time" to re-energize and renew our creative juices, and we couldn't have picked a better time to return to blogging with all the great releases we've had a chance to feast on over the past holiday weeks.
It was interesting during our time off to reflect on why we actually do what we do. I mean, who doesn't listen to music and talk to their friends about it? I guess the only thing that separates bloggers from everyone else is the desire to put those thoughts to a blog...where perhaps thousands of people or anyone with access to the world wide web could see them.
But that being said, do I care if you don't like my infatuation with obscure bands like Bear vs. Shark or my opinion on My Chemical Romance (they're terrible)? No, not really. But we do care about whether or not you have heard the latest band to hit the indie scene, or if you're aware that Bob Mould will be playing Milwaukee in March (which Ryan of Muzzle of Bees kindly clued me in to today). And for those reasons, and a few others, we're back and hopefully you'll be around to join us.
Besides, everyone knows that nobody cares about blogs....well, except for me...and you...and the countless others that stop by to visit us our our friends on the blogroll. So I guess as long as we're all "not caring" about the same things like great independent music and talking about it together that's a good thing.
We'll forgo any Best of 2007 rehashing but we do want to mention our favorite surprise of 2007: the lads of Les Savvy Fav.
If you haven't yet had the pleasure of checking out Les Savvy Fav's latest release, Let's Stay Friends, I highly suggest you get down to your local independent record store and do so.
The Brooklyn indie rock band hit the scene hard in 2007 with Let's Stay Friends and have been kicking ass and taking names ever since, earning a well respected 8.3 from Pitchfork media (if you care about that sort of thing). A daily play on our favorite workday listening spot, WOXY.com, Les Savvy Fav have quickly won over our music loving hearts here at VLM.
While I didn't see them on a ton of top lists for 2007, they did land the 6th spot on Metacritic's Best Albums of 2007 list. The band rang in the new year in style with a show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on New Year's Eve/Day, appropriately, as can be seen over at Brooklyn Vegan.
Make friends with Les Savvy Fav on Myspace.
