We're heading south to Fall Creek, Wisconsin later this morning for a college roomate's wedding and that got us in the mood for some good tunes to pack into the iPod for the road (we've got one of those things that let's you play your iPod through your car stereo, which is actually really handy when your girlfriend doesn't know how to use a CD case and thus loses/scratches most of the actual discs).
Luckily for us there was a nice little email from The Laureates in our inbox inviting us to check out their debut full-length album, There Are No More Gentlemen.
The Chicago outfit do not have a date set for the release, but in the meantime, you can head over to their website to download for free (or $5 if you're feeling generous) their 7" EP which features four songs, all of which are also available for streaming at the website. We particularly like "I Want To Miss You" and will enjoy it's doo-woppy rock grooves on the way to the wedding ceremonies today.

Up the road and a state over, the Minneapolis foursome who compromise the band SKIRT invite you to head over to their Myspace page and check out the eloquent vocals (and equally enchanting pictures) of Linnea Mohn and Katie Marshall and their bandmates. Their album Heartbeat. A Flameout is available for purchase via a link or two if you decide you like what you hear on their Myspace page.
Back to the wedding thing before we take off. One of the things we are contemplating for whenever we get married is what name Felicia will take. Being Irish and having the ol' "Mc_" in her name makes her proud, and taking my name "Guse" would be almost too much of a compromise to her, um, Irish heritage. Her idea? Change BOTH our names to McGuse. A little bit of both worlds, and it sounds a lot like "MacGyver."
