We're fully immersed in the holiday season over here at Veritas Lux Mea, and still recovering from the turkey cornucopia that was Thanksgiving. Have you started your holiday shopping? The wife got her big Christmas present early this year, a new desktop computer and SPORE, which interestingly enough leaves me with a laptop and wireless access all to myself. Will that mean more frequent blogging? We're hoping. But then again, there's plenty of other worthy things to do with our free time as well...right?
Do I look like a Melinda to you?While we're waiting for Ghost Whisperer to come on (Melinda Gordon isn't the hottest sounding name for a Jennifer Love Hewitt character, is it?), we'd like to help introduce you to Auld Lane Syne. As described by the Rochester City Newspaper (NY):
"The barely eight-month-old Rochester band anchors itself acoustically around songs of epic fragility and depth. The band tumbles, caterwauls, and careens like ragged lullabies sung by weary souls with no one to sing them to sleep. Or perhaps you could call them folk tunes where the parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme is replaced by, gunpowder, tears, whiskey, and blood. The music represents a persistent loneliness tempered with a lyrical resolve and fortitude. It is an absolutely gorgeous slab of haunting, ethereal Americana."
We think it's got a folksy rock feel that is more Tom Waits than the crap that sometimes comes out of this genre, but you can take a listen for yourself below:

Wild Light
If you're heading out this winter or early spring to catch Tapes N' Tapes on tour you'll definitely want to get there early so you can catch the opening act. New Hampshire quartet Wild Light will be touring with and opening for Tapes N' Tapes, and may very well be the best band you haven't heard yet in a long while.
Wild Light will be joining Tapes N' Tapes on a 29 city tour that will probably land near your neighborhood. Wild Light will be touring to support their upcoming album, due to drop March 3rd, titled Adult Nights.
Adult Nights was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, Guided By Voices), and features 13 original tracks co-written by all the members - guitarist Jordan Alexander, keyboarders and bassists Seth Pitman and Tim Kyle and drummer Seth Kasper. The four childhood friends officially formed Wild Light in 2005 and since then have gone on to play with numerous notable acts including MGMT, LCD Soundsystem, The Gutter Twins, and Arcade Fire (which Tim was a founding member of and who tapped Wild Light to play with them on select US dates as well as their entire European tour in Fall 2008).
