Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Veritas Lux Mea. Well, it's really the royal "us", but regardless, we're very thankful for these past years and all the things we've been able to share with you. A few of the things we give thanks for:

We had a really nice, relaxing and small Thanksgiving here at home with just the two of us. We won't be heading "home" to the parents' house until Saturday due to some work conflicts with my sister, but in the meantime, we had ourselves a nice little 3 lb turkey and a whole smorgasbord of vegetables. And a couple scoops of ice cream and a piece of pumpkin pie sure topped things off nicely as well. After watching Detroit get thrashed by Tennessee (Detroit losing is probably the best Thanksgiving tradition yet), we rented "Wall-E" and "Iron Man."
It's so interesting to see the hidden agendas in movies like Wall-E. I thought it was funny to see the fat, bloated humans completely dependent on technology...did it remind you of anything? Paige Newman had a few interesting things to say on this angle and others in this blog post over at MSNBC back in July:
"For me, the film took a satirical look at what’s happening now (pollution, consumer glut, excessive waste) to its logical conclusion – one that might actually be a good one for families to talk about. But it never felt preachy. The overweight people on the “WALL-E” spaceship are never portrayed as malevolent; they’re downright nice. After all, the moral of the film is that you can change things — whether it be finding love or repopulating the Earth — if you take your head out of the sand (or your TV monitor) and try. What’s not to like about that?"
Agenda or not, a cute movie.
That Was Something
As far as music goes for Turkey Day 08, we'd like to introduce you to a band that just might find itself singing its way down the Macy's Day Parade in the next year or two. Detroit's That Was Something just wrapped up their new EP Down, But Not Out and will be hitting the road in the coming months all across the states. The band's been around for a couple years, but 2008 marked their first release (BEARS!) with a record label (Lobster/Oort Records). They've got a sound that I would put somewhere between Fall Out Boy and Panic At the Disco, definitely a little more poptastic than we usually listen to but a very catchy sound indeed. Looks for That Was Something in a town near you or on your girlfriend's iPod.
